San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission Mobile Shower Campaign
Posted by Councilmember Englander on November 13, 2015 at 12:00 PM
During this holiday season, my office is launching a campaign to raise awareness and funds for a second mobile shower for the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission. Our goal for this project is to double the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission - Rescue Survival Outreach Services (Rescue SOS) resources and allow their team to reach twice as many people throughout the San Fernando Valley.
The Rescue Mission's Rescue SOS team helps individuals and families to meet basic, life-essential needs and serves as a link to social services in the community, including the organization's own emergency shelter, residential substance abuse recovery, and transitional housing programs. Throughout the week the Rescue SOS team truck travels to different places within the San Fernando Valley and is equipped with a mobile shower unit, hot nutritious food, clothing, and hygiene items for distribution.
Because there is only one mobile shower unit to service the entire San Fernando Valley, the Rescue SOS team is limited to providing showers for only 20% of the 1,500 men, women and children they serve and accommodate each month.
The San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission - Rescue SOS is the only team in the City of Los Angeles that currently goes out into the community and brings resources directly to those in need that may not have the ability to travel on their own. My Rescue SOS Mobile Shower Project is more than a new mobile shower, it's a way to bring resources to those that need a clean start.
