Advancing innov818 Throughout the Chatsworth Northridge Industrial Core

Last week, City Council unanimously approved two important motions relating to the establishment of the innov818 industrial corridor. The Chatsworth-Northridge Industrial Core has the potential to support technologically advanced industries that will drive the economic growth of our region. In order to attract and retain such businesses, my office is piloting new and innovative programs in the innov818 zone.
The first motion implements an area-wide overnight parking district pilot program. Normally, implementing these types of parking restrictions would be prohibitively expensive requiring the manufacture and posting of thousands of parking signs. However, due to the contiguous nature of the innov818 zone, the pilot allows for this parking regimen to be implemented simply by posting at the entrance and exit points to the area. This greatly reduces the implementation time and cost for a project of this scale and will allow us to make the innov818 zone a desirable place to locate and grow a business.
The second motion identifies funding and asks the Los Angeles Department of Transportation to assess the feasibility of a establishing a transportation shuttle to service the innov818 zone. This would help link the innov818 zone to major public transportation hubs nearby which would allow companies located in the innov818 zone to draw employees from across our region.
Next steps in the development of this zone will involve stepped up enforcement of the new parking restrictions and finding new approaches to street design so that we can develop the types of modern campuses that advanced technology industries demand.
