Englander Hosts Legal Town Hall
Posted by Councilmember Englander on February 05, 2016 at 11:55 AM
On February 2, in partnership with City Attorney Mike Feuer's Office, the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, and the Korean American Bar Association, my office hosted a Legal Town Hall for residents and businesses affected by the Aliso Canyon Gas Leak.
The more than 1,000 attendees heard from a panel of independent legal experts from the City Attorney's Office, USC and UCLA Law Schools, and the LA County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs who discussed legal rights and the legal process. Participants also engaged in a one-on-one legal workshop to discuss questions they had about relocations, mediations, and how to avoid scams.
Thank you to all the organizations that made this possible, especially City Attorney Mike Feuer’s Office, the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, the Korean American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs, and the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office.
Special thanks to our distinguished panelist: LA County Assessor Jeffery Prang; Nick Karno and Thomas Peters from the City Attorney’s Office; Maureen Carroll, professor of civil law and procedure at UCLA; Greg Keating, professor of tort law at USC; Rigoberto Reyes, LA County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs; and Cara Horowitz, professor of environmental law at UCLA.
