Englander Testifies Before Utilities and Commerce Commission on Future of Aliso Canyon Facility
Posted by Councilmember Englander on February 26, 2016 at 3:42 PM
This Monday, I testified on behalf of the City of Los Angeles before the State Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee in favor of Senate Bill 380 authored by Senator Fran Pavely. The bill would require the inspection of all Aliso Canyon gas storage wells and a multi-agency sign-off as to their ability to operate safely.
I am pleased to report that the bill passed out of the committee with a 13-0 vote and will now head to the Appropriations Committee for approval. My testimony follows the unanimous approval of my resolution supporting the bill by the Los Angeles City Council last week. Click here to view resolution.
The Aliso Canyon natural gas leak was the largest in US history. Thousands of people have been displaced causing physical, emotional, psychological and environmental damage. Nothing less than the knowledge that every well on that property has been inspected and deemed safe is acceptable to the communities this has affected.
