Ensuring More Officers Remain on the Streets and in the Community

This week, the Public Safety Committee instructed the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), with the assistance of the City Administrative Officer and Chief Legislative Analyst, to report back with an explanation of how daily police deployment and patrol staffing levels are determined, a set of options and strategies for establishing an update on baseline staffing levels, and the current Basic Car Areas to help identify and improve patrol coverage and reduce response times in our communities.
The City of Los Angeles and our residents have waited too long to get reports back on the status of its policing resources. In order to successfully implement the Community Policing Initiative, we need regular updates instead of our current annual ones.
