Honoring Officer Duc "Duke" Dao and Fern White in Council

This week, I was proud to stand with my colleague, Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, to honor a true community hero, LAPD Topanga Division Senior Lead Officer Duc Dao and the West Hills and Woodland Hills CrimeStopper Facebook Page Administrator, Fern White, in LA City Council.
Officer Dao assisted Bill Davy, a local community member who became homeless after his mother passed over a year ago. Officer Dao, LAHSA, and the HOPE Team provided Bill with resources and emergency housing. Bill was excited for the help, but nervous to lose his only possession: his car.
Officer Dao went above and beyond to help once he found out that Bill had expired registration tags and that the car title wasn’t in his name, but still registered under his deceased mother. Duc went to the DMV and found out how much Bill owed on the car and got the needed paperwork for the car title to be transferred to his name.
With the help of Fern White, Officer Dao spearheaded the fundraising effort and created a crowdfunding page to raise funds for Bill’s DMV fees, smog check, oil change, gas, and a hot meal.
With the help of the community, they were able to raise over $1,140 in less than 48 hours.
I’d like to thank Officer Dao for his leadership and continued efforts to protect and to serve our residents; and thank you to Fern White for her continued dedication to our West Hills and Woodland Hills communities.
