HOPE Team Addresses Winnetka Encampment

Starting last year, my Neighborhoods FIRST initiative became the primary focus of my office as we worked to combat the unprecedented surge in homelessness in Los Angeles. As the primary issue affecting safety and livability in our communities, I've directed new and additional resources to ameliorating some of the more negative impacts.
This week I joined our LAPD Operations Valley Bureau HOPE Team and Los Angeles Sanitation Rapid Response on Winnetka in the Chatsworth community.
This is one of the many encampment cleanups happening daily throughout CD 12. This encampment in particular has been a consistent source of complaints to my office as the amount of debris and trash collecting at the site grew. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of LAPD, Sanitation, and other homeless outreach services, we were able to clear up this encampment Thursday morning.
In addition, my office is continually meeting with multiple homeless service providers, religious organizations, and mental health professionals who work with homeless and at-risk populations to ensure that we are leading with compassion and removing barriers to housing and services, while alleviating the impacts of homelessness in our neighborhoods.
These experiences have taught me that while homelessness remains a crisis throughout our City, we must remain determined and persistent in addressing this issue.
