LAFD Conducts 2016 Airex Disaster Drill at LAX

This Wednesday, I had the opportunity to join Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Chief Ralph Terrazas to observe the LAFD Airex 2016 Emergency Drill at the Los Angeles World Airport (LAX).
Airex is a full scale simulated aircraft disaster drill designed to test the emergency response capabilities of our first responders. Drills like this one remind us how important it is to not only have an emergency plan but practice it regularly.
I want to thank the over 350 firefighters, operations personnel, local and federal law-enforcement officers, and especially the over 150 volunteers participating in today’s drill for creating a culture of preparedness and public safety for our residents and for the nearly 74 million travelers who pass through LAX each year.
