Yesterday, I joined Mayor Eric Garcetti for a tour TIG/m, one of the nation’s leading producers of self-powered hybrid electric streetcars, located right here in Chatsworth. Rather than rely on a continuous electricity supply from overhead catenary wires, TIG/m’s streetcars have an onboard battery packs that charge overnight, supplemented with an onboard clean fuel generator. The result is lower cost, faster deployment, and fewer visual obstructions compared to traditional overhead cable or underground power systems.
TIG/m represents the best of the San Fernando Valley -- they embody the very qualities we value here in Los Angeles: they are homegrown entrepreneurs, visionary, sustainable and green. From Los Angeles icons like the Grove’s double decker trolley to its impending roll out in Aruba and Dubai, TIG/M has produced streetcars for major cities worldwide and has doubled their manufacturing since 2013.
I am honored to have them in our district, and I am proud to say that this company is but one of many of companies producing and manufacturing cutting edge technology and product for consumer worldwide. This is an example of how the City government can help businesses to expand, thrive and stay in L.A., create jobs, boost the economy.
