Meeting the challenge of homelessness within our communities will require setting goals and executing them accordingly. That is why I was pleased to join my council colleagues this week in committing to build 222 units of supportive housing within my district over the next three years.
Homelessness is the result of a multitude of factors including the high price of housing, the opioid epidemic, rising addiction, insufficient mental health services, etc. And while there may be many different causes that lead a person to homelessness, one thing remains the same: the longer someone is out on the street, the more difficult it will be to treat the factors that led them there. Therefore, rapid re-housing with supportive services is an essential ingredient to addressing the crisis.
