Neighborhoods FIRST Update

This week, I participated in the LAPD Devonshire Division Clergy Appreciation Breakfast at Church of the Living Word in North Hills to meet with the members of the Clergy Council and discuss the issues regarding homelessness. I want to thank all of our LAPD Senior Lead Officers and clergy members throughout the community for taking the time to come together to work as a unit to help our residents in need.
Also this week, my team was joined by the City Attorney's Director of Homeless Policies and Strategies, Gita O'Neill to continue the conversation about resolving the ongoing homelessness issue and further develop relationships and resources for CD12.
Last year, my office formed the Clean Streets, Clean Starts program, in partnership with the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, the Northridge Sparkle Campaign (now the Northridge Beautification Foundation), and the Northridge South and Northridge East Neighborhood Councils. This remarkable partnership recruited homeless volunteers to help with maintenance activities on Reseda Blvd and uniquely combined the goals of community beautification with clearing impediments to employment and obtaining housing for our homeless volunteers. I am excited to see our community continue the Clean Streets, Clean Starts program in CD12 and throughout our City.
My office has been working diligently to map and assess the homeless hot spots, potential funding sources, advocacy groups, and volunteer networks active throughout CD12. We are resolving problems by marshaling the resources identified and developing plans of action to address the issues.
We are continually looking not only at what and where problems exist but also for partnerships in developing workable solutions.
