New Save Energy LA Campaign

This week, Mayor Eric Garcetti launched a new citywide campaign called Save Energy LA. With increasing heat due to climate change, more residents and businesses are cranking up their air conditioners while still using energy for lights, appliances, and other needs. This puts a strain on neighborhood power distribution equipment and the entire electricity grid, especially on hot days.
This summer, in light of the energy reliability challenges due to the Aliso Canyon gas leak, the Save Energy LA campaign provides critical outreach to help encourage Angelenos to reduce energy consumption that also helps us achieve goals in our Sustainable City pLAn.
The Mayor set a target goal to reduce City of Los Angeles energy use by 5% between August and October, some of our hottest months. Just as we did on water conservation, we can do this, and we are asking everyone to do their part.
