Protecting our Roadways from Illegal Street Racing

This week, Council unanimously passed my motion to provide funding for a pilot program to prevent illegal street racing by installing rumble strips on Plummer Street between Canoga Avenue and Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
This pilot, coordinated by the Department of Transportation, will explore the efficacy of rumble strips in stopping illegal street racing.
While historically used as a safety tool on many highways, this is the first time rumble strip technology has been used as a deterrent to dangerous, high-speed driving. We will be able to observe the results of the pilot over the summer months when illegal street racing activity is often at its peak. Should this pilot prove successful, we can roll out similar rumble strip installations to other areas where street racing is common.
