This Thursday, we gathered at Sam’s Café at New Horizons in North Hills for our Fifth Annual Welcome Back Workshop for Principals to collectively celebrate and support our K-12 students. Our main focus for the event was to apprise our educators of the most cutting-edge, research-based resources available.
Over 130 administrators, teachers, parent representatives, and stakeholders interacted with experts from a variety of agencies like the LAPD, LAFD, LA City Human Relations Commission, and CalArts Community Arts Partnership, as well as external entities like the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, Wings Over Wendy's, Museum of Tolerance, Philips Graduate University, Nystrom Education, and AudioJack around issues such as homelessness, human relations, public safety, curriculum, and formally announcing our 2017 Making Movies that Matter Youth Short Film Festival program.
Thank you to the team at New Horizon, especially President/CEO Cynthia Sewell, our special guests, LAUSD Northwest District's Joseph Nacorda & Cara Schneider, LAPD Devonshire Division Captain III Brian Pratt, and LAFD Operations Valley Bureau Chief Trevor Richmond. A special thanks to our sponsors, Nystrom Education and Providence Health and Services, and all of our speakers for helping make this event a success.
