This week, the students of E12 learned about the City's Information Technology Agency (ITA). The students got a "behind the scenes" tour of Council Chambers and all the audio and visual components required to broadcast the meeting via television Channel 35, streaming on the internet, and by calling Council Phone.
The students learned about the City's 3-1-1 system where residents can request services via the MyLA311 mobile app, the website myla311.lacity.org and by calling 3-1-1. The students visited the 3-1-1 call center where operators can help residents navigate the different services provided by the City in 153 languages.
The students also learned about the City's network and firewalls and how ITA helps to protect the City's network and systems from cyber-attacks.
The students interacted with professionals with backgrounds ranging from computer science, math, traffic engineering and electrical engineering and were exposed to a wide range of career opportunities available within ITA.
