The Revitalization of the Chatsworth Nature Preserve

On August 6 of this past year, we co-hosted a townhall meeting on the Chatsworth Nature Ecology Pond with the Department of Water and Power. After much public comment and question and answer sessions, the game plan was established to provide temporary water guzzlers while DWP mucked out the Ecology Pond. In addition, DWP officials worked to divert ponding water from Plummer and Valley Circle into the pond area and then we awaited the long-promised El Nino rain events.
This past week we were able to see how well the revitalized pond performed. Here are the before and after photos showing that the pond is indeed capturing water and will again be able to provide a viable water source for the nature preserve wildlife. We could not be happier with this result, and additional work is planned to divert even more ponding runoff to the preserve.
