Third Annual Drive-In Movie Night
Posted by Councilmember Englander on October 27, 2017 at 10:39 AM
Last weekend, my office hosted the 3nd Annual Council District 12 Drive-In Movie at Shadow Ranch Park featuring Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark. We had over 150 cars and nearly 500 people in attendance. The last time there was a permanent drive-in theater in our community was over 20 years ago. The idea for this event was to bring back the nostalgic feeling of a great San Fernando Valley past time and give our newer generation a memorable experience we all once enjoyed.
During our drive-in movie, my office called on the community members in attendance to raise awareness of the rising homelessness issue in our community. We invited Zaki Mustafa and his wife, Loretta, to discuss their non-profit organization Transforming a Life and their ongoing outreach efforts in our community. The Transforming a Life team goes out into the City of Los Angeles and brings jackets and cold weather clothing directly to those in need that may not have the ability to get to shelters on their own. Last year, they distributed over 2,600 jackets to adults and children. This year, we are excited to partner with them to help deliver more jackets throughout our community. I would like to thank everyone who attended and donated jackets to Transforming a Life; to our volunteer organizations, California Emergency Mobile Patrol Search and Rescue, Hollywood Outdoor Movies, LAPD Topanga Division, LA City Recreation and Parks, Howard Sommer’s Towing, West Hills Neighborhood Council; and special thanks to the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission and Ron Ross, owner of Wendy’s Restaurant in West Hills.
